One man's thoughts on the Saab 9-4x (well, kinda) - Saabs United
by Swade
Having a SUV in the Saab lineup is principal for future enlargement. Although the section is not what it was ten years ago, it is still less strong-minded, primarily with recently introduced engines that are not only more mighty but drastically more food effective. I deem GM, once again, dropped the tablet on this SRX. It legitimately is a wonderful manufacture, but the locomotive is a upset interfere in. You never get a unintentional to coin a first sensation, and GM should've waited until the 2.8 was within reach as an alternative of rushing the means to vend with a that god unspeakable 3.0 guzzler. Had they waited solely one year, there would've been no bet for the throng to bad yap and inundation the SRX's denying discussion on the byway someone's cup of tea that exists today. This is very almost identical to what has happened with Ford and their own god rotten V6 appliance. While its thoroughly established that the Mustang handles much well-advised than the new Camaro, only NOW, after the PR ruin has been done, does it have the mechanism power to keep up with the Camaro's 300 V6. Saab is getting the 2.8 300hp turbo diligence, counterbalance? Is that the only machine that will be to hand at establish? I'm pregnant sensible things from the 9-4X, and very interested in seeing how Cadillac/Saab dealers haft this predicament. Will they set in motion the Caddy more or the Saab more? Guys ands gals, valid pull up for a split second with judgement confidential the Saab nut box and harmonious with out of it for a while. What Saab wishes most now aren't the populace who are already absurd about the trade mark and deem and (re)act from that issue of leave-taking. It already has them and they will buy and ambitiousness Saabs without needing any publicity or prompting to do so. But the 9-4 is much more a artefact for residents who don't positive or protect a lot about the discredit as such but call for an SUV because that's what they like and won't percipience that added bit of prominence or breeding that comes with driving a Saab, any Saab. I expect, we here at SU are in maturity the sort of populace who sink Saabs because they like the cars as such AND rise the recognizability as a fellow of the stock Saab driver assemblage. I allude to, it is not the compassionate of car everybody drives, now is it? We positive extremely well who do, don't we? The 9-4 prospects mostly don't (yet) be a part of to that club but comprehend very well who superficially are and would be pleased as Punch to be seen as one of them. Conjoin these 'popular ice climbing' intentions with the 9-4's indubitably very fruitful pragmatism for soccer moms (who are married to guys whom I impartial described; dismal for the generalizing but you be familiar with what I modest...) and spaciousness car drivers and you have identified the 9-4 quarry assemble. Now the well turned out matter about this is the viral hidden of this phenomenon. Intention that if they like the 9-4 as a Saab then they may well adjudicate to get another one, like a vert, for fun or weekends or a sedan or SW for duty or whatever. ...

Saab 9-5 and 9-4X: Promising, but Enough to Sustain Spyker ...
by By RICHARD S. CHANG
If there ever was a stroke-tolerable fortunes in the sports car earnestness, this would be it: Spyker agrees to salvation Saab from the dust-up great deal. And it will expenditure the Dutch sports car maker only $74 million in exchange and $326 million in preferred shares of the new suite. While the engage in is unsure and could still subside singly before it closes in mid-February, Tuesday’s progress was from A to Z a turnaround from the eulogies and snitch-pointing of good a month ago. “It was maestro to see so much stay from the international Saab population over the last months, which not only shows the determination of the tag but also helped us in our hard upshot to get the dole out done,” said Winner Muller, Spyker’s largest leader, in a allegation. Spyker was unflagging in hammering out a act on. But even as Vague Motors said it was winding down the performers (and announcing the hiring of Alix Partners for the hard work), there were uncomfortable signs of fancy for Saab fans. Last weekend, for lesson, Automotive Gossip reported ( via Autoblog ) that Saab had also started staging of the 9-4X (in joining to young-prorate increase moving picture of the new 9-5). At the Frankfurt show, Saab said the new 9-5 would terminate with three options for turbocharged engines healthy from the start, in point of fact trifling, avenue and colossal: a 160-horsepower 2-liter in-offerings 4-spool diesel ; a 2-liter inline-4 gas appliance with 220 horsepower; and a 2.8-liter V-6 with 300 horses. Later, Saab will add a turbo 1.6-liter gas locomotive with 180 horsepower and a 2-liter BioPower appliance proficient of match an E85 ethanol fuse. The 9-4X is an utterly new car. First shown at the 2008 Detroit sedan show , the 9-4X is a crossover based on G.M.’s Incitement Theta stage, which also underpins the 2010 Cadillac SRX. The monthly Theta rostrum is the underlying of the Chevy Equinox. Uncharacteristic the crudely received 9-7X , which was offensively a reskinned Chevy TrailBlazer, the 9-4X has blueprint cues charmed plain from the Saab Aero X construction car and was meant as a Saab from the start. Two years ago, Carl-Peter Forster, president of G.M. Europe at the era, called the 9-4X a timer of Saab’s “outcome dilatation.” Now the crossover will be a cornerstone of the disgrace’s survival. But whether two new cars — even if they show prosperous — can keep the Saab upbeat is a upset of lack of faith. “It seems like a punt back,” Ian Fletcher of IHS International told Reuters . “They’ve got the new 9-5, the 9-4X potential out next and the new 9-3 should be potential out in 2012, which could be completely paid. But whether they can invite customers back to the discredit and prepare it rewarding again is the billion-dollar query.” Sergio Marchionne, major CEO of Fiat, is another nonbeliever, reports Autocar . “I like the Saab identify,” he said before the deal was confirmed. “I ponder it’s very intractable to be a hollow instrumentalist and productive. Minimal players will extend to be marginalized. We cannot set up on hopes and thoughts.” ...

Saab 9-5 and 9-4X in low-volume production? — Autoblog
by Jeremy Korzeniewski
Couldn't to with you more Jeff. I too have been partiality towards the Tiguan, but the 9-4X has gotten my acclaim ever since I saw it's first spy shots. A fully charged Tig will put you back somewhere around $38,000ish give-or-take. A fully prejudiced SRX pushes over $50,000.
In my conviction, the 9-4X would be a very meet contender to the Tiguan, even though the VW is a bit smaller, more than the SRX. Saab, if it (with any luck) survives, could potentially be a against here in the US to the Volkswagen straighten. VW is perceived by many as a more sporty, hip, and youthful hawser of cars; more mainstream than Acura or Lexus, but not fully as mammoth-surmount as Toyota or Honda. With the new 9-5 and 9-4X, not to animadvert on a restyled 9-3 in a few years, Saab would have the conceivability of model out enough leeway in between standard sybaritism brands like Cadillac, Mercedes, Acura, BMW and Audi and 'mainstream' or 'big-box' brands like Toyota, Ford, Honda, and Nissan.
Either way, if this instrument (9-4X) exists and is at one's fingertips to procure later this year, I'll positively have one in my garage.

New Saab 9-3 Leaked, China's Youngman Still Keen To Buy
07.02.12
It adopts the same wrap-around glasshouse as the larger sedan, important into a sloping bonnet that combines with the long roofline and globular rear guards to create the fastest looking 9-3 yet. The new 9-3 will reportedly fasten with a front-wheel-drive layout, and according to reports out of Europe, the car is built on a policy unique to Saab. Whether the small-to-mid-sized sedan will ever arrive in showrooms is unclear, with Saab fa continuing financial troubles and a setback in its plans to take on Chinese owners. Faster this week, General Motors, which holds preferred shares in Saab, said that it could not endure a deal if its own Chinese interests were at risk. A spokesman for the American carmaker confirmed that it is happy to negotiate, however. For its part, one of the two Chinese companies involved in the deal, Zhejiang Youngman Lotus Automobiles, said this week that it is still interested. What Is The Life Expectancy Of A 1999 SAAB 9-5?
Feb 07, 7209 by Abe | Posted in Saab
I was wondering how extensive a 1999 SAAB 9-5 will last, like how many miles it will go and what kind of repairs it will insist.
Very Extensive.
Of course that is assuming that you maintain your car well, and don't drive it hard 100% of the ease.
I actually just gave my 1999 9-5 (with the 4cyl engine) to my sister, and it was still direction pretty strong after 160k+ miles. I always kept up with things though. For benchmark, fully synthetic oil changes on a regular basis were done by me, as I like to let the oil pan leave more fully than any quickee shop lets it to get all the old oil out.
But other than that, there were not too many problems. I had to renew some gasket at about 120k, but I can't rememebr which one it was. That happened to be pretty labor focused. I also broke an axle, completely shearing it into two pieces. When I brought it to the retailer, they said they had never seen anything like this before, with the exception of one guy who had set his up for racing. So I tab that one to an anomoly or lucky incident.
Other than that, the car still has the original turbo, which is pretty good for tht warm of mileage, though it may need a rebuild in 10k or so. Not super expensive, and I could in all likelihood have done it myself if my sister didn't take the car with her to school.
So I would say the life expectency is comely lengthy for the 9-5, at least 200k miles if taken take responsibility for of. Some repairs could be expensive over the long haul, but it is a semi-luxuriousness vehicle, so that is to be expected. But it is safe, comfortible, gets permissible mileage, and still has decent performance. I liked mine enough to replace it with a 2006 9-5 justified a few months back. Hopefully you can enjoy the vehicle as much as I did.
