I really want an 06 Cadillac STS-V. What kind of major problems can I expect, and is it worth it?

Currently I see one customary for about $35k with 19k miles on it. I am planning on waiting and saving for another year and hoping the prize would fall under $30k by next year. I hear plenty of problems in the matter of Cadillacs; what kind of problems can I expect with the STS-V specifically, and what are the ballpark costs of maintaining those problems?


the STS-V was disgraceful for rear end troubles. The differentials were not strong enought o hande the torque from the V8s. They later misused the diff to eliminate that issue. So make sure that the differential is in kind-hearted working order. May require getting a mechanical test, but you should do that any way.

Where can I take my 2006 Cadillac STS-V to get the brakes changed?

I called my regional dealer, and they want to charge me $660 to change my apply the brakes pads. Seems very high to me. Now, if thats what I have to do, I'll do it. But it feels like they are gouging me. I characterize as they are Brembo brakes.


Any principled local garage will probably be able to do it for half of that. When you get to a garage only just ask the service writer or owner if they are capable of doing such a job. I see no reasoning why not if it's a decent garage. I would personally "NEVER" take anything to the jobber unless they were the last place on earth and even then I would see if the local high fashion kids would give it a try if I didn't have the time. Your right the dealer is gouging you and they always will. They have in mind the cadillac is a special car and nobody else can work on them, not to mention the price mark up for cadillacs and cadillac parts. I've seen dealers fingerprint up the prices on parts as much as 100% but it's usually more like 40% ( that's any relationships not just cadillac). So stay away!! Especially a cadillac dealer. Is an 06 Cadillac STS-V worth the extra 10-13 K compared to an 05 Cadillac STS V8?

Would I be satisfied with the STS and not force I would have gotten the V series?


The V series is not quality the extra money. As a driver, you won't be able to tell the reformation with normal day to day driving. Put the V on a track and you will see a big difference. Both cars have top start power and good running power but the V8 is more than enough. For the figure of an 06 STS-V you should consider an 05 XLR. Your resale would be much higher.
